Congratulations on choosing Cisco Webex from Best Security Systems as your communications system! We appreciate your business and look forward to working with you as your business grows and develops.

Placing calls on hold is an essential day-to-day function that can be utilized when switching between calls, momentarily leaving your desk, or speaking with a colleague. When a call is placed on hold, hold music will be heard by the caller and your device's microphone becomes muted, preventing the caller from hearing you and freeing up your device for another call. The hold music played to the caller may be the default Webex Calling hold music or custom hold music selected by your organization. When a call is taken off hold, the hold music is suspended and the caller is once again able to hear you. This article demonstrates various ways you can place calls on hold when using Webex Calling as your organization's phone system.

Cisco IP Phones

While you are connected to an active call on your Cisco 6800, 7800, or 8800 Series IP phone, calls can be placed on and off hold three ways: with the "Hold" softkey, with the Hold button, or by using the desktop Webex application.

Softkey: While participating on an active call, the "Hold" sofkey will appear. Press the "Hold" softkey to place the caller on hold. When ready to remove the caller from hold, press the "Hold" softkey again. The caller will be taken off hold.

Hold Button: As an alternative to the "hold" softkey, the phone's Hold button may be used. During an active call, place the caller on hold by pressing the Hold button (symbolized as "pause" icon). The caller may be taken off hold by pressing the Hold button again.

Webex Desktop Client: If you have installed the Webex desktop software, you can remotely control some of your IP phone's functions from your computer. Follow the steps below to control your IP phone's hold function from your computer. For more information about setting up Webex Desktop software, see Downloading and Installing Webex for Desktop.

  1. While your phone is participating in an active call placed on the Webex desktop client, click the menu button (symbolized by three dots) in the lower section of the call window.

  2. Within the open menu, click the "Hold" option. The caller will now be placed on hold.

  3. When ready to take the caller off hold, click the green "Resume" button. The caller will now be taken off hold.

Webex Mobile App

  1. While you are participating in an active call on the Webex mobile app, tap the menu button (symbolized by three dots) at the bottom of the app.

  2. Within the open menu, tap the "Hold" option. The caller will now be placed on hold.

  3. When ready to take the caller off hold, tap the green "Resume" button. The caller will now be taken off hold.
